# AI Mode

> Google's conversational search surface, which renders answers as interactive cards rather than a list of links.

AI Mode is distinct from AI Overviews. An AI Overview is a summary above the classic results; AI Mode is a conversational surface where the whole answer is assembled, and can include maps, carousels, comparison tables and generated widgets. A site cannot produce those elements. It can only publish the data one is assembled from, which is why entity markup and parallel, typed lists matter more here than page-level copy.

## Example

Asking a follow-up question about hotels and getting a carousel of three properties with prices, rather than ten blue links.

## How to apply it

Publish a complete entity block, keep lists parallel and at least three items long with one type per list, and serve the text without JavaScript.

> **Pro tip:** AI Mode and AI Overviews get used interchangeably and are not the same thing. Being clear about which one a client means changes what you measure.
