# Indexing

> The process of storing and organizing crawled pages in search engine databases.

After crawling, search engines process and store page content in their index (a massive database). Only indexed pages can appear in search results. Indexing involves analyzing content, understanding topics, and determining relevance.

## Example

After Googlebot crawls your page, it gets processed and added to Google's index within hours to weeks, depending on site authority.

## How to apply it

Use the URL Inspection tool in GSC to check indexing status, request indexing for important pages, avoid duplicate content, and ensure pages are crawlable.

> **Pro tip:** A page being crawled doesn't guarantee indexing. Low-quality or duplicate content may be crawled but not indexed.
