Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) measures the time it takes for the largest content element (image, video, or text block) in the viewport to become visible. It's a key Core Web Vital indicating perceived load speed.

## Example

Good: <2.5s, Needs Improvement: 2.5-4s, Poor: >4s. If your hero image takes 5 seconds to load, your LCP is 5 seconds.

## How to apply it

Optimize and compress images, use next-gen formats (WebP), implement lazy loading, preload critical resources, use CDN, reduce server response time.

> **Pro tip:** Identify your LCP element using PageSpeed Insights or DevTools. Often it's a hero image - optimizing just that one element can dramatically improve LCP.
