Part of SEO reporting
The best SEO reporting tool is the one that matches what you report on and who reads it. If your reports cover SEO alongside paid ads, social and email, a multi-channel dashboard tool fits. If they cover organic search only and you want the analysis done for you, a Search Console-based SEO tool fits. If you already pay for an SEO suite, its report builder may be enough. Decide on those three points first, then compare tools on data accuracy, time saved per report and price per client.
The criteria that matter
| Criterion | Why it matters | How to test it in a trial |
|---|---|---|
| Data sources | A report is only as good as the data it can reach | Connect Search Console, analytics and any other channel you report on |
| Brand split | Non-branded clicks are the clearest measure of SEO | Try to show branded and non-branded clicks separately |
| Analysis, not just charts | Clients want to know why numbers moved | See whether the tool explains movers, or only plots them |
| Time per report | The main cost of reporting is hours | Build one real monthly report and time it |
| White-label and portal | Agencies resell their own brand, not the tool's | Add your logo and colours; check what clients see and how they sign in |
| Price per client | Costs scale with clients, sites or seats | Calculate cost at today's client count and at double it |
| Exports and sharing | Clients read PDFs, links and emails differently | Export a PDF, share a link and schedule an email |
The main categories
| Category | Examples | Good at | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free dashboard builder | Looker Studio | Custom layouts, blending sources, no licence cost | Build and upkeep time; connector limits for some sources |
| Multi-channel agency reporting | AgencyAnalytics, Whatagraph, DashThis | Many marketing channels in one branded report | SEO depth depends on which data sources you connect |
| SEO suite report builders | Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking | Rankings, backlinks and audit data from the suite itself | Reports center on the suite's own estimates |
| Search Console-based SEO tools | AnotherSEOGuru App | Organic analysis from your own Google data, opportunities, shipped work | Narrower channel coverage |
The options, one by one
Looker Studio
Google's free dashboard tool, with native connectors for Search Console and Google Analytics and partner connectors for many other sources. It suits teams that want full control over layout or need to blend SEO with paid and CRM data. The cost is time: someone has to build the template, maintain calculated fields such as the brand split, and fix it when a connector or field changes. Partner connectors for non-Google sources are often paid. Our SEO dashboard guide includes a layout and the brand regex field to start from.
AgencyAnalytics
A reporting platform built for marketing agencies, with dashboard connectors for many channels, client-facing dashboards and white-label options. It is a strong candidate for agencies whose clients buy SEO together with PPC, social and other services and expect everything in one place. Check how deep its SEO data goes for your needs and how pricing scales with the number of clients.
Whatagraph
A marketing reporting tool focused on combining data from many channels into visual, shareable reports. It suits agencies and in-house teams reporting on several channels at once, especially where presentation matters. As with other multi-channel tools, the SEO analysis is as good as the sources you connect, so confirm Search Console coverage in a trial.
DashThis
A dashboard reporting tool with integrations for many marketing channels and ready-made templates. It suits teams that want a quick, tidy multi-channel dashboard without building one in Looker Studio. Check whether its templates cover the SEO metrics in your SEO KPIs list, such as the brand split, and how pricing scales with dashboards.
Semrush and Ahrefs report builders
If you already pay for an SEO suite, its reporting features are the obvious first thing to try. Both offer ways to turn the suite's own data (rankings, backlinks, site audits, competitor visibility) into reports, with options to bring in Google data. The strength is having research and reporting in one subscription. The caution is that traffic and keyword figures from a suite are estimates; for what a client actually received, use Search Console clicks. Check which reporting and white-label features your current plan includes.
SE Ranking
An all-in-one SEO platform with rank tracking, audits and a report builder, often considered by agencies and freelancers who want SEO research and client reports in one tool at a lower entry point than the largest suites. Check which reporting and white-label options are on the plan you would buy.
AnotherSEOGuru App
Our tool, built on Google Search Console. Reports → Client report builds a branded, printable report for any site and date range with headline metrics, trends, wins, top queries and pages and the work you shipped, and you can print it or save it as PDF. The same app finds opportunities with an estimated click impact, measures shipped fixes before and after against the rest of the site, and on the Agency plan adds white-label reports, a client portal, a client CRM and a pipeline. Search Console analytics and client reports cost no credits on any plan; current plans are on the pricing page.
Where it is not the best fit: if your reports must combine SEO with paid ads, social and email in one document, a multi-channel tool will serve you better. If you want a drag-and-drop canvas with dozens of third-party connectors, Looker Studio or a dashboard tool is more flexible. If your team lives in Semrush or Ahrefs data and reports mainly on backlinks and competitor estimates, staying in that suite is simpler. And if you manage more sites than the Agency plan's 30, check the fit with us first.
Which tool fits which team
| If you are... | Start by trying |
|---|---|
| One in-house marketer, one site, tight budget | Looker Studio, or Search Console plus a written monthly summary |
| An agency selling SEO with PPC and social | A multi-channel reporting tool (AgencyAnalytics, Whatagraph, DashThis) |
| An SEO team already paying for a suite | The suite's report builder, with Search Console clicks added |
| An SEO agency or freelancer reporting organic results to many clients | A Search Console-based tool with white-label reports and a client portal |
| A team that needs a fully custom layout | Looker Studio |
How to run a fair trial
- 1
Pick one real client and one real month
Use the same site and date range in every tool you test, so the comparison is fair.
- 2
Write down the report you need
Use the sections in the SEO report template as the target, and note which ones each tool fills.
- 3
Check the numbers against Search Console
Clicks and impressions should match Search Console for the same property, range and filters. Small differences need an explanation.
- 4
Time the whole job
From connecting data to a report you would send. Multiply by your client count to get hours per month.
- 5
Show the result to a client or manager
Ask what they understood in the first minute. That is the report's real job.
- 6
Price it at double your current size
Calculate the monthly cost now and at twice the clients, sites or seats.
What no tool does for you
Every tool can draw a chart. None can decide what the client needs to hear. The summary, the reasons behind big movers and next month's plan are written by a person who knows the account. The structure for that is in SEO reporting. For agencies, the branding and delivery side is covered in white-label SEO reports, and tying the report back to what you promised in the sales process starts with a clear SEO proposal.
