What is Anchor Text

Anchor text is the visible, clickable text of a hyperlink that provides context about the linked page's content. Search engines use anchor text to understand what the destination page is about.

Example

In 'Read our <a href="/guide">complete SEO guide</a>', the anchor text is 'complete SEO guide'.

How to apply it

Use varied, natural anchor text. Mix branded, exact-match, partial-match, and generic anchors. Avoid over-optimized anchor text which looks manipulative.

Tip:An unnatural anchor text profile (too many exact-match keywords) is a red flag for Google's spam algorithms.
