What is Index Bloat
Index bloat occurs when a site has too many thin, duplicate, or low-quality pages indexed. This dilutes crawl budget, spreads PageRank thin, and can negatively impact how Google perceives site quality.
Example
An e-commerce site with 500 product pages but 50,000 indexed URLs due to faceted navigation creating infinite filter combinations.
How to apply it
Audit indexed pages with site: operator, noindex thin/duplicate pages, canonicalize variations, block low-value URLs from crawling, consolidate content.
