What is Mobile-First Indexing

Mobile-first indexing means Google predominantly uses the mobile version of content for indexing and ranking. This reflects how most users now access the web via mobile devices.

Example

If your mobile site has less content than desktop, Google will only see and index the mobile content, potentially hurting rankings.

How to apply it

Ensure mobile and desktop have the same content, use responsive design, check mobile usability in GSC, test with Mobile-Friendly Test tool.

Tip:Check the User-Agent string in your server logs. If you see 'Googlebot-Mobile', that's what's indexing your site.

Track it in GSC Boost

GSC Boost reads your Search Console data and tells you what to fix first, with the clicks each fix is likely to bring. Start with the guide or sign up free.
