What is LCP (Largest Contentful Paint)

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) measures the time it takes for the largest content element (image, video, or text block) in the viewport to become visible. It's a key Core Web Vital indicating perceived load speed.

Example

Good: <2.5s, Needs Improvement: 2.5-4s, Poor: >4s. If your hero image takes 5 seconds to load, your LCP is 5 seconds.

How to apply it

Optimize and compress images, use next-gen formats (WebP), implement lazy loading, preload critical resources, use CDN, reduce server response time.

Tip:Identify your LCP element using PageSpeed Insights or DevTools. Often it's a hero image - optimizing just that one element can dramatically improve LCP.
